Avatar Legends is out NOW! Only 240msp for a Limited Time!!! 5/26/2011
Go get it folks and join in on the fun.

http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/Avatar-Legends/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d80258550879

Oh, and if you start designing make sure you start with a multiplayer map first.  There is a bit of a learning curve on the designer just like any other powerful tool.  Building a few multiplayer maps first will help you learn the tool before moving onto the more complex designer components in the single player mode.

Make sure to watch the design help videos.  They will help out quite a bit.  We'll have more videos coming in the future.

Awesome. I just popped an indie game boner, an action RPG boner, AND a RPGMaker boner. I can't wait to play this tonight.
Indie Critic5/26/2011 - 10:27 AM
i was very excited to play this and when it was released i bought it asap. but im very dissapointed. its not that great, not like some other pick up and play games on marketplace. Regardless, it has potential, so after a few patches ill try it again, but until then it is frustrating to build and boring to play
barkers crest5/26/2011 - 11:05 AM
@Indie Critic Well, that is unfortunate. I don't really know what you were expecting so I can't understand why you are very dissapointed. A lot of people absolutely loved this game in testing and review. But during early testing there was one guy were this just wasn't his type of game so he didn't enjoy it...so if that is the case I understand but otherwise I'm not really understanding what you didn't like about it. Why was it frustrating and why was it boring to you?
Ravi075/26/2011 - 11:27 AM
Hi, i like this game, great job. I know not every game can be perfect but i encounted this glitch that i wanted to bring to your attention. Me and a fiend was playing online on the beach map (sorry cant remember what its called but you have to defend the fortress on the beach) and well one of the monsters climbed up the mountain and into the fortress(where the player cant actually go) i tried to follow and got stuck in the wall and had to give up. Overall its a great game and i see lots of enjoyment from it.
Indie Critic5/26/2011 - 1:43 PM
I cannot rotate the camera when placing houses and other such objects. As far as i know theres no in game step by step tutorial, as i am new to the "activate when this occurs event occurs" type construction and "avatar becomes invisible when". how could you not include a tutorial? and no youtube doesnt count we want an in game tutor
barkers crest5/26/2011 - 1:55 PM
You can rotate the camera by holding down the left shoulder button and moving the right stick. You can zoom in and out as well with the triggers while holding the left shoulder down. I admit it can be frustrating learning about these undocumented functionality. We are in the process of building out the website to have comprehensive design help. Thank you for going into detail about what frustrated you because otherwise I couldn't have known. As for an in game tutor, well, that might be a bit outside the scope of what a 3 dollar indie game can provide. We are doing the best we can to help everyone out. All you have to do is ask questions and we'll answer them and help you out.
Baldrik5/26/2011 - 2:05 PM
Woohoo! It's out!!! *Trips over several pointy objects while quickly running to the Xbox*
Guy T.5/26/2011 - 2:19 PM
Excellent! I came here to check on the progress and what do you know, it's available as of today! I'll be downloading it tonight.
Indie Critic5/26/2011 - 3:07 PM
is there a way i can use offline avatars on my system that i am not friends with that dont have any type of live as npc's
Indie Critic5/26/2011 - 4:01 PM
one more thing. i think the camera angle is kind of odd. if it was angle slight higher up (angled more towards facing the ground when you manually look down, default camera settings) and slightly closer to the player. i feel like im getting dragged along the ground. the battle camera is ok
*Indie Critic5/26/2011 - 4:04 PM
**Angled more like up (inverted camera control)**
Deathawaits5/26/2011 - 5:17 PM
So far i like this game, i finally get to make any game i want and let my friends try it out. But as for weapons. armor and such, i think could of used a lil more customization, like change the color or something. And will you be releasing extra content in the future?
Deathawaits5/26/2011 - 6:01 PM
and one more question, in my game i have a shed, and the player needs to go there and grab a key. but once the player has the the key, how do you make it so the player cant keep clicking on the shed and getting unlimited amounts of keys?
Indie Critic5/26/2011 - 6:12 PM
my game froze building a road, i somehow made more then one white sqaure while doing it, and it stopped workng. had to reset my xbox
barkers crest5/26/2011 - 6:36 PM
@Indie Critic You can use any avatars from gamers that are signed in. I can tell from your questions you have started out by jumping into the deep end. :-)
Indie Critic5/26/2011 - 6:44 PM
It seems like only a deep end, unless you have rpg maker experience. i dont typically play these dorky games, but its the only decent game with avaters. in a good way
Nick5/26/2011 - 6:45 PM
@Deathawaits "one more question, in my game i have a shed, and the player needs to go there and grab a key. but once the player has the the key, how do you make it so the player cant keep clicking on the shed and getting unlimited amounts of keys?" If you made the give key through a trigger. Edit that trigger, and make a new event. Select the visibilty event and choose trigger, now pick your trigger, and set it to hide. This will make it so you can't keep activating a trigger. (This is actually the default event, you may have shut it off by a mistake.)
Nick5/26/2011 - 6:47 PM
@Ravio: Thanks for the bug report.
@Deathawaits5/26/2011 - 6:48 PM
If you are rewarding the key with an event trigger, when you reward the key add another event ( Show/Hide Event ) to hide the trigger as well. That will disable the trigger.
Slade Strife5/26/2011 - 7:59 PM
I am loving the game I am having fun building right now I'm working on multiplayer maps and single player game at once lol there's alot to make I would like more color options but the set up in leveling for multiplayer caught me by surprise I thought it was just a base character you give :D
Slade Strife5/26/2011 - 8:23 PM
I love the axes are there any plans of other weapon types I noticed there is a punch as well and any plans at this point for maybe more things to build with I would love to see debree and destroid walls/buildings
Baldrik5/26/2011 - 9:08 PM
The game is everything I dreamed and more! The only thing I think it needs is the ability to choose different music for battles, it gets kind of tedious.
Nick5/26/2011 - 9:59 PM
I know we're not always responding to each comment, but just to let you all know we are reading everything. Thank you so much for the feedback, suggestions and bug reports. Keep it coming. =)

sorry everytime i refresh the page it apparrently re-posts
Nick5/26/2011 - 10:46 PM
@Devin Ah, I forgot to cover this in the tutorials. (I'll touch on it next video.) Basically what's happening is a main quest automatically is linear. Meaning if you complete quest 1, it starts quest 2. Side Quests however are a lot more generic and you can complete them in any order. Sorry for the mix up Devin, hope it doesn't make this too inconvenient for you.
devin5/26/2011 - 11:07 PM
its alright. so far this is the best indie game available on the xbox in my oppinion:)
Nick5/26/2011 - 11:57 PM
Glad to hear it. =)

Thank you for giving us so much for so little. =) I await future tutorials with great anticipation! PS Avatar Golf Rocked too.
Bolo5/27/2011 - 8:01 AM
I saw in some youtube videos the battle cam was behind the avatars body more like fable 3 style and I really liked it like that but in the game its overhead which I hate. Is there a way to change it?

barkers crest5/27/2011 - 8:39 AM
@Bolo Right trigger when in combat mode. Keep pressing it to cycle through the 3 different combat camera settings. The overhead cam is my personal favorite.
Skidz5/27/2011 - 8:43 AM
Game is hotness. Shout out to Big Reep and Pocket Change. Pootie Poot, what it do baby.
Bearded Wanderer5/27/2011 - 9:12 AM
This is really impressive. I did happen to have the game crash on me when I was editing a path though. The Xbox just completely froze. Otherwise this is one of the best indie games I have purchased.

Opps sorry for last comment, I refreshed the page by mistakes. Bearded Wanderer: We are aware of this issue, but thanks for the report.
Baldrik5/27/2011 - 11:37 AM
I've been playing the game ALOT since it came out, and I serriously would pay $10-$20 for it! $3 is so cheap for such an awesome game!
Nick5/27/2011 - 11:47 AM
Thanks Baldrik. What are you spending most of your time in? Single Player? Multiplayer?
Baldrik5/27/2011 - 12:21 PM
I haven't started the singleplayer campaign yet but I plan to. I've played several games of multiplayer with a friend, and have already made my own multiplayer map as well.
Nick5/27/2011 - 12:23 PM
Very cool, glad you're enjoying the multiplayer.
Rolf5/27/2011 - 3:20 PM
Hey guys, I'm on the verge of picking this up but I need to know - do you have to have a Gold account to build and share single-player maps?
Evil Unloaded5/27/2011 - 4:22 PM
This is simply put a great game! Which is rare because now you pay $60 for a game that sucks, and jackass critics always talk up some of the most shity games. You guys are on the verge of greatness!
Alright5/28/2011 - 1:01 AM
The multiplayer is near pointless, its a horde mode that many other games have done better already even for 3 bucks. The camera angle out of combat is irritating but I haven't checked to see if you can change it while out of combat. The editor is interesting and has a lot of potential but some of it is counter-intuitive and sometimes limiting, and I've had it crash a few times. Is it impossible for more than one set of grass?
barkers crest5/28/2011 - 9:38 AM
@Alright Go watch some of the videos Nick has made for some designer tips. Changing the grass is pretty easy. As for the multiplayer mode, get real we all know better than that. It's only a pointless horde mode if you let it be or don't have a gold membership. BTW, can you show me which game has had a better single player adventure, multiplayer mode, and designer for $3? I'll send you a free code if you can.
Nick5/28/2011 - 11:31 AM
Also at Alright... Why didn't you change the camera angle? If you don't like the angle change it. Not need to complete trash the game based on moot points. @Rolf Yes you need a gold account to share. It's an XBL limitation. (Of course if you played system link you could share multiplayer maps locally.)
NickC (gamer002)5/28/2011 - 12:44 PM
Wow this is simply amazing... I can't thank you guys enough for making this game. Played a good 3 hrs of the single player and so far has been exactly what I expected: really good. The multiplayer leveling and shop system and all - it's absolutely amazing too, better than I thought it would be. Designing is tough and long, but I'm enjoying it. I had to do a test map to figure it all out. Currently working on my main adventure and storyline I'd written, can't wait to get it finished in 2 months or so. Only one question... is there a way to sell swords and shields for money?
Nick5/28/2011 - 1:20 PM
No way to sell equipment. Glad you're enjoying the game and I'm sure you'll make some sweet maps. (Just like Avatar Golf.)
barkers crest5/28/2011 - 1:34 PM
@gamer002 You can incorporate world item selling by using a remove gold event and remove world item event...but like Nick said there is no sell equipment functionality built in.
Nick5/28/2011 - 1:39 PM
Just to avoid confusion. You can't remove swords and shields via remove inventory events, only general items.
gamer0025/28/2011 - 2:25 PM
@Nick/Barker That's what I found out when I did my test map, thanks.
Bolo5/28/2011 - 3:16 PM
Thanks for the help. AWESOME GAME. Me and my friends have been playing it for so many hours and it even inspired by friend to be a programmer (although I told him real programming is a lot harder) One other question. Any plans to add more content like music?
Bolo5/28/2011 - 3:27 PM
Sorry for the double comment but I thought it would be amazing if we can use music from our hard drive!
Bolo5/28/2011 - 3:49 PM
Sorry for the double comment but I thought it would be amazing if we can use music from our hard drive!
Rolf5/28/2011 - 5:29 PM
@Nick Did you see my question at all? I'm wondering if I will need an XBOX Gold account if I want to build and/or download user-created single-player levels. Do you know the answer?
barkers crest5/28/2011 - 5:48 PM
@Rolf You don't need gold to build but you'll need gold for any networking activity such as sharing which includes downloading new maps. Unfortunately this is a microsoft restriction so there isn't anything I can do about it.
Rolf5/28/2011 - 6:07 PM
Yea, no problem, I know it's not your decision. I'll probably pick it up anyway. Hope you guys eventually develop for other platforms as well. Thanks.
Jann5/28/2011 - 6:12 PM
Can I build my world in the trial version and then when i decide to buy full version will my trial stuff be caried over to the full version? I jst have no money for a 1200 msp card but really want to build now
Alright5/28/2011 - 9:22 PM
Wow you guys can't take criticism, are you going to be able to make actual video games one day? If you can't take the simple criticism I gave you here I fear for your future endeavors. There are quite a few bugs with the designer regardless of your tutorials, certain mappings with paths/grass/water cause the game to become highly unstable. I mentioned that I had not fully checked the camera but you should make the ability to more obvious since the mapping for some controls are obtuse. I didn't say there was all that at least on the xbox, PC otherwise though yeah there are lots of those for free. Regardless either buck up and learn to take criticism to make a better game or make your customers who want to see this grow into something feel like they're unwanted. Your choice.
Alright5/28/2011 - 10:37 PM

And apparently this blog double posts old comments? Odd.
Baldrik5/28/2011 - 11:27 PM
@Alright; You should learn to not look at games as one big failure if something small doesn't work just right, virtualy everyone loves this game, and as was said before: just try to find a game with so many features for only $3... I say if you can find one, buy it, and complain to them about bugs and camera angles. (Barkers Crest rules!!!)
Baldrik5/28/2011 - 11:30 PM
Also, I love multiplayer mode, it's almost all I play, it may just not be your cup of tea so please don't bash it.
Team Zissou 765/28/2011 - 11:48 PM
I'm very interested in the mp portion of the game, but... will I encounter the dreaded code 3 or 4 like in avatar golf? It's very frustrating having to restart my game a couple times a night. If you guys put lefties or perhaps wildlife in golf, i'd buy this avatar legends game without question just to support you guys at barkers crest!
@Alright5/29/2011 - 3:51 AM
"The multiplayer is near pointless" - alright then, guess you can just ignore the dozens of awesome weapons, shields, magic, titles, skill points, ranks, leaderboards, kill/gold meters, and exciting new levels you can design to experience that horde mode in? "I haven't checked to see if you can change it out of combat" - Really? You're complaining about something that you haven't even bothered to see if you can change? (I'll give you a hint: twiddle the right stick). "Is it impossible for more than one set of grass" - It literally says right at the bottom of the screen that pressing the D-Pad changes the type of grass. As for any bugs you have, we apologize. If you experience something nasty, post it here, and it will certainly get fixed in the next update (that will be free and will also contain a bunch of sweet new content). We'd love to be more receptive, but remember, you basically called the game "worthless" right off the start - not the best way to get people to warm up to you.
barkers crest5/29/2011 - 6:42 AM
@Team Zissou 76 The code 3 is gone. We've discovered a bug in the multiplayer similiar to a code 4 that will get fixed in the future (its pretty rare but does happen from time to time). The good news is the game loads really fast from the dashboard compared to Avatar Golf. Jump in you'll get your money's worth and more.
Baldrik5/29/2011 - 10:08 AM
Man, the game release post has just passed 70 comments! all previous posts on this site got like a max of 25.
Mightylink5/29/2011 - 6:18 PM
I just found this game on Xbox Live and I gatta say I'm totally hooked, this is such and amazing tool set to build your own RPG, and it even has online features, simply fantastic!
Lightnin5/30/2011 - 3:53 AM
I love this game, especially the adventure builder which is advanced for an indie game, but the game does crash when i try to load my map to finish editing it, it said error code 4, how do i fix this?
Lightnin5/30/2011 - 5:11 AM
also, when im editing, unexpected errors keep occuring very frequently,so that i cant do anything :(
barkers crest5/30/2011 - 7:53 AM
@Lightnin If you can tell me what happens when you get the errors that would help out. Are you by any chance getting an error screen that gives you the option to view the details? If so please view the details, take a picture of the details, then email them to me.
Lightnin5/30/2011 - 8:28 AM
it hasn't been working for two days but when i tried it a minute ago to get the details it worked :| thanks for the support anyway though barkers crest, this game is in my opinion the best indie game ever!

@ NICK Oh ok, makes sense. Thanks XD
Baldrik5/31/2011 - 12:19 AM
40/10, that's my rating for this game! I'm having lots of fun playing and building, and I haven't encountered any glitches of any kind! :D
PutridMeat5/31/2011 - 2:10 PM
Ran into a bug! Thought you'd like to know. Happened when I was trying to place some tall grass along the bank of a river. Resulted in an "Unexpected Error", more or less a Code 4. I DID put markers right on the edge of the water, touching it. Dunno if that's what caused the problem, didn't have time to retest it.
Zach5/31/2011 - 6:30 PM
Great game, but I was just wondering if there is a way to make it where you can vs. the monsters in the combat zones more than once? (build mode)
Nick5/31/2011 - 7:15 PM
No you can't sorry Zach. =( You can build multiple combat zones on one spot however. (And make one hidden until after an event is triggered.)
PutridMeat6/1/2011 - 7:24 AM
Couldn't you just reactive the Combat Zone through another trigger? Maybe I'm wrong there, but I THINK you'd be able to do that.
Darkwyve6/1/2011 - 7:33 AM
It seems the haters of this game can only find the basic flaws that are in most games (even $60 ones), or complain about glitches in extra features that don't even exist in other games. Other than Breath of Death VII, this is the only Indie game I've spent more than a single evening playing. The gameplay might be a bit simplistic, but its well done and immensely enjoyable. The $3 price tag is absurdly cheap for everything you get. You've definitely got my word of mouth supporting you (convinced 2 friends to buy it (who play the crap out of it now too), and talking it up to half a dozen more).
Anonymous6/1/2011 - 7:34 AM
Features I would love to see: The option for your Avatar to run/have mount to increase movement along maps. Maybe an an accessory slot (Think amulet that makes hp regen over time, or cloak that stops you from having random encounters, boots that make you run, and perhaps can only have one accessory on at a time?) Add those options with a new story quest (maybe with optional multi-player in that quest if possible) as an expansion, and you'd definitely get another $3 out of me (hell, $5 even :)
Darkwyve6/1/2011 - 7:36 AM
Ooops, the Anonymous post was me to, forgot to put my name in that post. Anyways, thanks again for a great game, and if my feature requests aren't feasible, forgive the outrageous requests, as I have no idea what it takes in programming to add such stuff :)
Nick6/1/2011 - 12:29 PM
Darkwyve: I also really enjoyied BoDVII and also would recommend Cthulhu Saves the World from the same company. As far as suggestions most would reqire a complete overhaul of the game, but we still appreciate the thoughts. :)
Punter King6/1/2011 - 3:04 PM
Thanks shake, for the help with way points. Also wanted people to know if they want any new maps look for me in a lobby I have nine built as of right now the maps seem to be turning out nice looking. well thanks again
Bolo6/1/2011 - 3:24 PM
Major Feature you need! Ambient sounds. With no music and no rain my map is 100% silent. I need wind, crickets, ocean sounds, seagulls ect
metallicorphan6/3/2011 - 4:21 AM
i bought this game yesterday,at first i was a little overwhelmed with the amount of enemies on the screen, and then two steps i get another bunch of enemies, but they are easier to handle when you have levelled up some and got some magic, and then start again when you hit game world 2,difficulty wise I have just started on Game world 3,i think i have missed at least one side quest up to now(according to the titles in the stats)..so i will be asking you later how and where that is :) oh,i got to Barkers town and it kinda crashed on me and a 360 pop up error screen came up and said code 3 and threw me to the dash...however i reloaded and it was fine anyway, just wanna say well done,i am enjoying the game a lot
Alex6/3/2011 - 7:23 PM
@Indie Critic [Thanks for the support Alex but we have to watch our language]

Afflicted Scars6/30/2011 - 1:11 PM
hey i have been working on a very story driven game and made different areas, but when i shared it with friends, the event marker that makes travel functions dont work when they play, but when i play it, it works perfectly, do you know why they cant travel on my story?
T.J.9/18/2011 - 9:11 AM
99% is my rating! Only because it freezes occasionally when in the editor and I wish there was more songs to use. Other than that, it's the best Indie Game on the Marketplace!
Jim9/18/2011 - 10:49 AM
Game is great but could use a ton more item variety as well as an indoor theme map creator. Why are we limited to being outside?
XRoGueAsSaSs1nX12/5/2011 - 7:59 PM
hi i really really love this game and im in the middle of building an adventure but for some reason it keeps saying it unedspectedly stoped working why is this its always saying it after 2 mins of playing
Person7/1/2012 - 7:16 PM
Hi the game is great but could you please fix that unexpected stop in building adventures? It's frustrating when I have to keep going back into the game only to be sent back to the dashboard. But other then that, the game is awesome and I can't wait for future games!
